Pay
We offer competitive pay levels, with increases through national pay awards each year and dependent on your starting salary, annual increments within the scale. Starting Salary

Scale 1 Posts £10,836 per annum
Scale 2 Posts £13,044 per annum
Scale 3 Posts £14,004 per annum
Scale 4 Posts £15,273 per annum
Scale 5 Posts £17,445 per annum
Scale 6 Posts £19,674 per annum
Senior Officer Grade 1 (SO1) £21,822 per annum
Senior Officer Grade 2 (SO2) £23,934 per annum
Principal Officer Grade 1 PO1 £24,627 per annum
Principal Officer Grade 2 PO2 £25,989 per annum
Principal Officer Grade 3 PO3 £28,116 per annum

Hours
The standard working week is 36.5 hours normally 8.45 am - 5.15 pm (Mon-Thurs) and 8.45 am - 4.15 pm on Fridays with one hour for lunch. Where special working patterns exist, employees receive enhanced pay, through shift or other allowances. Flexitime arrangements operate in some departments.

Holiday
The force offers a generous annual leave entitlement, which provides for additional leave after 5 years continuous service with a police authority.

Up to and including Scale 4 24 days 29 days (After 5 years)
Up to and including Scale 6 26 days 31 days (After 5 years)
SO1 and above 28 days 33 days (After 5 years)

Employees at all grades receive a further 10 days leave a year through Bank Holidays and other locally agreed leave.

Pension
Employees are able to join the contributory Local Government Superannuation Scheme, which provides a number of benefits including:

A generous retirement gratuity, and index linked pension after you reach the age of 65 (or 60 after 40 service).

Enhance pension and lump sum, if you have to retire on ill-health grounds.

Financial support subject to eligibility criteria, for surviving dependants.

Relocation
New employees moving into the area may be entitled to take advantage of the Authority's Relocation Scheme. This provides up to £3,000 to cover relocation costs, removal expenses and financial assistance for visits needed to find a new home.

Maternity Benefits
Employees expecting a child, irrespective of their length of service, are guaranteed a job on their return to work. Dependent upon their length of Police Authority service, they will be entitled to a period of paid/unpaid leave. In addition, the Authority offers facilities for part-time working, job sharing etc, so the opportunity exists to return to work on a reduced number of hours. The Authority is committed to supporting women who want to return to work after having children. It also offers a Career Break Scheme which gives employees (who have completed 2 years satisfactory service) the opportunity to take an extended break from work.

Occupational Health
A wide range of support and advice on health and related matters is available to employees through the Occupational Support Service. If an employee is absent through illness, they may be entitled to full and half pay, depending on length of service and period of absence.

Smoking at Work
The Police Authority is committed to provide a healthy, smoke free working environment for all staff. To this end a policy is in operational prohibiting smoking in all offices and other areas of police premises.

Career Development
The career structure provides opportunity for promotion for suitably qualified employees.

Training
The Authority is committed to training and developing staff, using both internal and external training facilities. It offers a comprehensive in-house programme of courses and provides assistance for employees to study for relevant job qualifications, with time off and financial support available, subject to certain criteria.

Professional Fees
Employees who are professionally qualified and belong to an approved, job related Institute will have their subscription fees paid by the Authority.

Sports and Social Facilities
The Sports and Social club organises an extensive programme of social and sporting activities. There are over 40 sporting and hobby sections catering for police and support staff, covering a range of pastimes including - Angling, Football, Hill Walking, Squash, Skiing, Golf, Chess etc.

In addition, members are entitled to use the Club's extensive sports facilities and can attend the numerous social events that are organised. A small monthly fee is charged to members to cover Club running costs.
